ahhh..mirrored furniture...where to begin!
so romantic & feminine... it's the return to Old Hollywood glamour...
Pictured above is my favorite piece of furniture in my bedroom. I knew from the get go that I wanted a mirrored vanity. Unfortunately, many mirrored furniture usually comes with a pretty high price tag. After doing much research, I finally had my eyes set on Pier 1's Hayworth Vanity and Mirror Set. It had everything I was looking for and much more- a drawer to hold cosmetics, a 3 way mirror, and it was covered in hand cut beveled mirror pieces with an antique finish! Most importantly, I was able to get it for $450...after a one time weekend sale and 25% off coupon. Considering that most mirrored vanities are priced at $1,000+, I think I did a pretty good job. :) (oh- I got my stool for $49.99 at Home Goods! I think it's a lot more eye-catching than the one from Pier 1...and cheaper too!)
One of the best ways to make a piece of furniture your own is to add personal touches. For instance, I added a crystal lamp and picture frame. The combination of crystal and mirror adds an instant glam factor... to any room! I switched the drawer knob to a more colorful one from Anthropologie. To add a pop of color to my vanity, I bought a hot pink clear pencil organizer from The Container Store $5.99 to use as my makeup brush holder. For more of a personal touch, I framed 2 pictures of my parents from when they were my age- before they even knew each other- as a daily reminder of just how lucky & blessed I truly am! :):. close up images below- click to enlarge .:
Here are more mirrored vanity pictures for your inspiration! (click to enlarge)

2 of my all time favorite figures in fashion w/ their ultra glam mirrored vanities:
1) SJP in the SATC movie

2) the beautiful & talented designer of Marchesa- Georgina Chapman (This is probably my all time favorite vanity!)

Although the previous examples are quite elaborate, it really doesn't take much to create a simple but yet chic vanity. Here's a simple recipe for creating a cheap vanity area of your own!
.: Ingredients :.
- desk/counter space
- stool/ottoman/chair
- personal finishes: perfume bottles, jewelry, pretty makeup cases, small lamp
- 3 fold mirror/ hanging mirror w. sash
.: Direction :.
Create an elegant setup.
I created a collage below of cheap finds from Urban outfitters, Target, and Ikea that would make a lovely vanity setup. Personally, I love shaggy rugs-I actually have one in my bedroom- and I think it would make a perfect addition underneath a mirrored vanity table. I would also take strands of faux-pearl and hot glue them to the green ottoman so that there are stands of dangling pearl hanging from the ottoman....after all..designing is all about using your creativity and imagination!
1. Urban Outfitter 5' Square Chateau Shag Rug- $79.99 (on sale!)
2. Urban Outfitter Mirrored Dressing Table- $200
3. Urban Outfitter Scalloped Mirrored Tray- $19.99 (on sale!)
4. Target Wave Design Paper Lamp Shade- $12.99
5. Target Simply Shaggy Chic Antique Crystal Lamp Base- $29.99
6. Urban Outfitter Lana Velvet Pouf- $89.00
7. Ikea VANNA Lace Pattern Hanging Mirror- $29.99
8. your own perfume!
9. Forever 21 Blaire Faux Pearl Necklace- $9.80
Total Cost: around $470
Compared to the $475 I paid for just my vanity and mirror, you're getting a lot more bang for your buck- a lamp shade, crystal lamp, ottoman, a rug, mirror tray, AND jewelry! What a bargain! :)
I hope you enjoyed Part ONE of my mirrored furniture series...a Part TWO recipe is coming soon...
Have a fabulous weekend!
xoxo
